Introduction

Quran App ("we," "us," or "our") is operated by Ali Tanwir. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use our website, progressive web app (PWA), and Android application.

Quran App is designed with privacy in mind. You can use most features without creating an account. Sign-in is optional and enables multi-device sync for bookmarks, favourites, and reading progress. By using Quran App, you agree to the practices described in this policy and our Terms & Conditions.

Information We Collect

We collect only the information needed to provide the service:

• Account data — If you create an account, we collect your email address and authentication credentials through Supabase Auth. Passwords are handled by Supabase and are not stored in our application code.
• Usage data — When you use bookmarks, favourites, or reading progress, we store that activity linked to your device ID and/or user account.
• Device identifier — We generate a unique device ID stored in IndexedDB, a cookie (quran_app_device_id, valid for 365 days), or localStorage as a fallback. This allows anonymous use without an account.
• Technical metadata — When you create a bookmark, we may collect your operating system, browser, device type, user agent, timezone, and whether you are using the app as a PWA.
• Approximate location — When you create a bookmark, we may use IP-based geolocation via ipapi.co to determine your country, region, and city. This does not require your explicit permission but is less precise than GPS.

Information We Do Not Collect

• We do not use analytics SDKs (e.g., Google Analytics, Mixpanel).
• We do not use advertising or marketing cookies.
• We do not sell your personal data to third parties.

How We Use Your Information

• Provide core features: reading, audio, bookmarks, favourites, and reading progress.
• Sync your data across devices when you are signed in.
• Maintain anonymous functionality via device ID when you are not signed in.
• Improve reliability and troubleshoot issues using client metadata.

Local Storage & Cookies

In addition to server-side data, we use local technologies on your device:

• Cookie — quran_app_device_id for anonymous device identification (365 days, SameSite=Lax).
• localStorage — Theme preference (theme), device ID fallback, and PWA install prompt dismissal (pwa-install-dismissed).
• IndexedDB — Persistent device ID storage.
• Service worker cache — Offline access to app assets and Quran content.

Third-Party Services

We rely on the following third-party services:

• Supabase — Authentication and database storage for user data.
• alquran.cloud — Quran text, translations, and audio content.
• ipapi.co — IP-based geolocation when creating bookmarks.
• Our hosting provider — Standard server logs for security and performance.

These services have their own privacy policies. We encourage you to review them.

Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share data only with the third-party processors listed above, solely to operate the service. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights and users' safety.

Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account or device identifier remains active and is needed to provide the service. You may request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us. Clearing your browser storage will reset your local device ID but will not delete server-side data linked to a previous device ID or account.

Your Choices & Rights

• Use the app without an account — your data is tied to a device ID only.
• Sign in to sync data across devices.
• Clear browser cookies and storage to reset your local device ID.
• Request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data by contacting us at the email below.

Children's Privacy

Quran App is intended for a general audience. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures, including Supabase's security infrastructure, to protect your data. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Your continued use of Quran App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
